Booking a house call

How do I book a doctor house call in Winnipeg?

Call 204-582-2362 (58-22-DOC). Phone lines are open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week. Have the patient's health card ready (Manitoba, or another province or territory). Our office books a same-day visit for you.

Can I book a house call for my parent, spouse or someone I care for?

Yes. Family members and caregivers can book a house call for someone else. You will need the patient's PHIN (Personal Health Identification Number), which is printed on their Manitoba Health card. If the patient has health coverage from another province or territory, have their health card ready and we'll confirm the details.

What is a PHIN?

Your PHIN is your Personal Health Identification Number. It is printed on your Manitoba Health card. We use it to book your visit, and it is how Manitoba Health covers the visit.

What should I have ready when I call?

Have the patient's health card (a Manitoba Health card with their PHIN, or a health card from another province or territory), their full address including any apartment number and buzzer code, and a phone number where we can reach you today.

Can I book online?

Not yet. We are setting up an online patient portal, and a link will appear on this website when it is ready. For now, please call 204-582-2362. Phone will always be available.

Cost and health coverage

How much does a doctor house call cost?

Our doctor house calls are 100% covered by Manitoba Health for patients with valid Manitoba Health coverage. We also accept health coverage from other provinces and territories; call us and we'll confirm your details.

Are house calls really covered by Manitoba Health?

Yes. The Province of Manitoba says Manitoba Health pays doctors directly for insured services provided in their office, clinic, hospital or other institution, or in your home. See Province of Manitoba: Better Health.

I'm visiting from another province. Can I get a house call?

Yes. We accept health coverage from other provinces and territories; call us and we'll confirm your details. Have your health card ready when you call 204-582-2362.

The visit

How soon will the doctor arrive?

Visits are same-day. We cannot give you a specific arrival time, because the doctor is travelling between homes. After you book, please plan to stay home for the rest of the day.

Can a family member or caregiver be there during the visit?

You are welcome to have a family member, friend or caregiver at home with you. They can help you answer questions and remember what the doctor says.

Who we see and where

Who can get a house call?

People of all ages who live inside Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway. House calls are especially helpful for seniors, people with limited mobility, people too unwell to travel and parents with sick children.

Is there an age limit?

No. We see patients of all ages, from babies to seniors.

Which areas of Winnipeg do you visit?

We visit homes anywhere inside the Perimeter Highway (Highways 100 and 101). If you are not sure whether your address is inside the Perimeter, call us and we will check. See areas we serve.

Do I need a family doctor or to be a White Cross patient to book?

No. You don't need to be a White Cross patient or have a family doctor. Anyone who needs a doctor at home, inside the Perimeter Highway, is welcome to call 204-582-2362.

Looking for a family doctor for the long term? You can also register with the Province's Family Doctor Finder (204-786-7111 in Winnipeg).

Do you visit seniors' apartments and 55+ buildings?

Yes. We visit you at home, including seniors' apartments and 55+ buildings. When you book, tell us the building name, unit number and buzzer code.
